Assistant Teacher, Primary 3 Classroom (ages 3 to 6), 2014-15

Position Description:
The Kennebec Montessori School seeks an assistant teacher for one of its three Primary classrooms. In addition to assisting the head teacher during the morning program, the assistant will supervise lunch and recess.

Compensation: $11-12/hour, depending on qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • B.A. or B.Sc.
  • Experience and/or training in early childhood education
  • First-aid/CPR
  • Knowledge of Montessori education is highly desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work as a team with the Head Teacher to provide a calm and pleasant learning environment for children ranging from ages 3 to 6
  • Share responsibility for the safety and well-being of students enrolled in the program
  • Perform tasks necessary to maintain a clean, orderly and attractive classroom
  • Foster an environment of cooperation and community, based on the Montessori philosophy
  • Model excellent language and communication skills
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training
  • The ideal candidate will also have skills in the area of art, music and/or outdoor education.

Starting Date: mid-August 2014; summer employment also possible.

 

Summer Program Teacher (June to August 2014)

Position Description:
The Kennebec Montessori School seeks an energetic, creative individual to provide care for children ages 3 to 8 in our Summer Program. The school, a private non-profit organization founded in 1976, offers primary and elementary programs based on the educational philosophy of Maria Montessori to 95 children, serving the Greater Waterville area.

Compensation and Benefits: $10-11/hour

Basic Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Early Childhood Development OR
  • Experience with supervising children in a day care setting
  • First-Aid/CPR training

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work as a team with other staff members to provide a stimulating and enjoyable environment for children ranging from ages 3 to 9
  • Be responsible for the safety and well-being of students enrolled in the program
  • Perform tasks necessary to maintain a clean, orderly and attractive classroom
  • Keep careful records of the arrival and dismissal of children throughout the day
  • Foster an environment of cooperation and community, based on the Montessori philosophy
  • Model excellent communication skills

Upper Elementary Teacher (grades 4-6): Beginning Sept. 2014

Position Description:
The Kennebec Montessori School is searching for a dynamic teacher to join our team as we expand to offer an Upper Elementary program, beginning in 2014-15.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree; minimum of 3 years of teaching experience.
AMS or AMI certification at the Upper Elementary level; OR
Lower Elementary certification and a willingness to pursue Upper Elementary training.
The successful candidate will be a creative, enthusiastic, lifelong learner with excellent communication skills and a generous sense of collegiality.

Compensation and Benefits:
